Ranked 5th among the 32 veterinary colleges in the North America, the College of Veterinary Medicine boasts the country’s largest Veterinary Medical Center with a Clinical Trials Office that provides our patients with the latest treatments available. From global health programs to basic cancer research, the college focuses on a “One Health” approach that combines animal health issues with human health concerns and environmental impact to create a healthier world.

Prerequisite Courses – Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, and Communication coursework must be completed with: (1) a grade of C or better in each course, (2) a minimum of 3.0 (B) average among the courses, and (3) no more than one C among any of the capstone courses.

Veterinary and Animal Experience

· Volunteer or work with a veterinarian(s) to gain a realistic perspective of the profession.

· Gain experience with a variety of veterinary career paths to develop your knowledge of the profession.

· Experience should be of appropriate breadth and depth in order to gain an appreciation for and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the veterinarian and the scope of veterinary medicine.

· Work with a variety of animals (companion animals, food animals, equine, exotic, and research).

· Gain unique and diverse experiences.

No minimum number of hours with a veterinarian or animal experience, but most applicants demonstrate considerable experience.

Required courses：Required courses (in semester hours) must be completed by the end of spring term with a grade of C (2.00) or better prior to fall matriculation. These courses must be completed at an undergraduate level. All required science courses must be taken within the last 10 years.

· 6 hours of English;

· 14 hours of humanities or social studies (examples of courses: psychology, sociology, philosophy, history, government, foreign languages, economics, or fine arts);

· 8 hours of general biology (for science majors; full year with laboratory — please note that BIOL 1103 and BIOL 1104 taken at UGA will NOT count toward our general biology requirement);

· 8 hours of general chemistry (full year with laboratory);

· 8 hours of organic chemistry (full year with laboratory);

· 8 hours of physics (full year with laboratory);

· 3 hours of biochemistry;

8 hours of advanced biology courses (300/3000-level or higher biology courses(at the undergraduate level) that have general biology as a prerequisite. Nutrition, behavior, production and ecology courses do not count toward the advanced biological sciences requirement. Recommended:300/3000-level comparative anatomy, physiology, microbiology, cell biology, or genetics)

250 Hours of Veterinary Experience

A minimum of 250 veterinary experience hours is required for all applicants. The 250 hours must be completed at the time the VMCAS application is submitted. To count toward veterinary experience, you must be under the direct supervision of a veterinarian. If you are not under the supervision of a veterinarian, the experience is considered animal experience.

Our admissions evaluation includes many components - GPA's being only one. You might be a strong candidate if you have high GRE scores, significant veterinary and animal experience, interview well, etc. So, yes, there is a chance that you could gain admittance to our program.
